Emergency crews were called to the scene of crash near the Cuesta Grade in San Luis Obispo Friday morning.
It happened just before 10:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes just north of the summit.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle was on its side in a ditch.
Extrication efforts were reportedly required.
One lane of the highway was shut down while emergency crews remained on scene.
CHP reports one person was taken to the hospital with major injuries.
