A missing Salinas Valley State Prison inmate was found at a fast food restaurant in Nipomo and transported back to SVSP Friday.

Edgar C. Delgado walked away from the Minimum Support Facility on Tuesday.

During routine patrol, a San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Deputy found a stolen vehicle in the 2000 Block of Turri Road in Los Osos. The vehicle was associated with Delgado but was found to be unoccupied.

Deputies conducted a search of the area but were unable to find Delgado at that time.

A joint investigation began to locate Delgado, who was believed to still be in San Luis Obispo County.

A surveillance operation was later conducted in a restaurant parking lot in the 500 Block of Tefft Street in Nipomo. There, Delgado was intercepted and taken into custody without incident.

Delgado was admitted to SVSP from Santa Barbara County on March 1, 2019 to serve a four-year sentence for possessing or owning a firearm by a felon and possession of a controlled substance for sale.

He was scheduled to be released in June 2021.

Delgado's case will now be referred to the Monterey County District Attorney's Office to consider escape charges.
