UPDATE (12 p.m.) — First responders extricated a San Luis Obispo man after he crashed into a semi-truck at high speeds on Highway 227, according to CHP officials.

CHP officers told KSBY a 27-year-old male from San Luis Obispo was driving a Toyota Scion on Highway 227 southbound.

Reports from witnesses say the man was driving "at a high rate of speed," CHP officials said.

Police say the second party of the collision, a semi truck driver, was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Price Canyon Road and Highway 227.

When the light turned green, the semi truck proceeded only a few feet into the highway when the driver of the Scion crashed into the truck at high speeds and ended up underneath the semi truck, according to CHP.

Officials say CAL FIRE SLO and CHP responded to the collision and extricated the driver of the Scion without "severe injuries."

Police say the Toyota Scion was completely damaged in the crash.

CHP officers say they do not suspect alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.
