Long lines greeted parents at Rice Elementary in Santa Maria Wednesday morning.
The school was handing out Chromebooks and meals for students who are now studying from home the rest of the month as part of a “district-wide effort” to keep the education of students moving forward.
While health officials have advised people to stay six feet apart from one another to limit exposure to COVID-19, people could be seen standing close together while waiting outside the school.
District officials told KSBY they were only allowing a few people through the gates at a time and were encouraging people in line to spread out.
PIO Maggie White said cones were later added to the line to encourage space between families.
Schools in the Santa Maria-Bonita School District are closed through April 3.
