A barbeque fundraiser was held Saturday afternoon in memory of the man who was struck and killed while crossing North Oak Park Boulevard in Grover Beach last month.
Justin Kissinger, 33, was crossing the street at about 7 p.m. on January 21 when he was struck by an SUV.
His family and friends are now raising money for his burial costs.
"He was a coach, a mentor. Not only that, he was just a giving person. Anytime he had something, he'd be willing to share it with you. This shirt literally was off his back," said longtime friend Gilbert Escobedo.
Donations can also be made at Wells Fargo under "Justin Kissinger Memorial Fund" and a gofundme page has been set up online.
Friends say donations will also help support Kissinger's two children.
