Firefighters will burn dozens of brush piles Tuesday to reduce the risk of wildfires in Montana De Oro and Morro Bay State Parks.
State Parks officials say crews will set fire to about 80 brush piles starting at 7 a.m. and finishing by 5 p.m.
The burn piles in Morro Bay State Park are located between Ridgeway St. and Balboa St. and the piles in Montana De Oro State Park are near Camp KEEP and the environmental camp facilities.
In addition to mitigating wildfire threats, officials say the controlled burning will help increase forest health and restore native plants.
The communities of Los Osos and Morro Bay may notice smoke during the burning operation. The Air Pollution Control District will be on scene to monitor air quality concerns.
