Firefighters extinguished a house fire on the 400 block of Mindoro Street.

The call of black smoke coming from the second story came in to dispatch shortly before 11 a.m. on Friday.

Morro Bay Fire, along with mutual aid from San Luis Obispo County Fire, were able to clear the smoke within 20 minutes.

The home appeared to have sustained considerable damage as crews brought out damaged items from the home.

No one was home at the time it began, but Morro Bay Fire says a pet died in the fire. Officials say the Red Cross is assisting the homeowners.

Fire officials expect cleanup to last another hour. They estimate damage at about $100,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
