Students in the 7th through 12th grades may be able to receive free bus passes in Santa Maria.
To be eligible for the 31-day Youth Adventure Pass, students must also receive benefits such as free or reduced school lunches.
Students and their parents can apply in person at the Abel Maldonado Community Youth Center, located at 600 S. McClelland Street.
City officials say the Youth Adventure Pass was born out of the Mayor's Task Force on Youth Safety, which is focused on preventing youth violence and gang activity. Students petitioned the task force for free and low-cost transportation.
