An 18-year-old arrested in connection with the death of a rural Arroyo Grande woman last week has been charged with murder.

The criminal complaint against Kayonie Eliaz Mendibles of Fresno was filed in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Tuesday and alleges the murder was premeditated and a belt was used in the killing.

San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 2000 block of Chamisal Lane Friday night to reports of a trespasser and found Jeanine Vore, 77, dead inside of her home.

Investigators called her death suspicious and issued a Be On the Lookout (BOLO) bulletin for the suspect, whom witnesses said they had seen fleeing the scene of the incident in a vehicle.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Friday, sheriff's deputies in the southern San Luis Obispo County area spotted the suspect's car driving through Arroyo Grande and conducted a high-risk traffic stop on Highway 101 northbound near the 4th Street exit in Pismo Beach, said the news release.

Authorities said they identified the suspect Mendibles.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail where he remains in custody, jail logs show.

Mendibles was in court Wednesday morning but did not enter a plea. He is due back for further arraignment Dec. 16.
