The City of Goleta announced the beginning of the highly anticipated Old Town Sidewalk Improvements Project.
The project will include construction of sidewalk on at least one side of each street north of Hollister Avenue between South Fairview Avenue and Mallard Avenue as well as on Pine Avenue south of Hollister.
There will also be drainage improvements, tree replacements, repaving, and the construction of 39 back-in angled parking spots on Magnolia Avenue for a net increase of approximately 17 new parking spots.
"I would definitely say the sidewalks being so choppy and uneven and cutoff have been very difficult to navigate, so we're very excited about the sidewalks being fixed and being able to have more parking and just to enjoy the neighborhood that we love so much," said Kylie Acosta, Old Town resident.
The project has been in the planning and design phase for the past three years.
