On Sunday, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is bringing its Great Strides 5K to San Luis Obispo county for the first time.

The foundation's mission is to cure cystic fibrosis and to provide treatment to people living with the disease.

Registration for the 5K will take place Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Avila Beach Plaza and the walk will start at 10 a.m.

This year's team is walking for a 5 year old boy named Ryder who lives in San Luis Obispo.

Ryder was diagnosed with CF at three weeks old.

His family says this is the first time the walk has been held locally and this is the third year in a row they've raised over $10,000 for the foundation.

Ryder's family is hoping this event will help raise awareness about the disease as well as raise money for research for a cure.
