Hapgood Elementary in Lompoc is improving its playground so students can have a safer place to play during recess.
The improvement will also support the physical education program.
Crews are planning to install an oval shaped, three lane track near the northeast playing fields in October.
The interior turf portion of the project will greatly improve the safety of the grounds in the area. It includes saw cutting and exporting approximately 26,000 square feet of existing grass which is riddled with gopher holes.
Superintendent McDonald says, "We are thrilled to help enhance the health and opportunities of the Lompoc community".
