UPDATE (4:40 P.M.): A man was rescued from a cliff 150 feet high off of Harford Pier in the Avila Beach area.

Fire crews received a report of a climber in need of help around 2:30 P.M.

CAL Fire SLO led the rescue with assistance from California Highway Patrol, Harbor Patrol and the City of San Luis Obispo fire department.

A helicopter was requested to the scene, but first responders were able to rescue the hiker within an hour.

“They used a rope system to extract the victim from the cliffside,” explained Travis Craig, Battalion Chief with CAL Fire SLO.

The man did not suffer injuries.


CAL Fire SLO is leading the rescue of a climber stuck on the side of a cliff on Pecho Coast trail above Harford pier.

First reports of the rescue came in just before 2:30 P.M.

In a Tweet, the agency said the San Luis Obispo County Fire USAR team is assisting with the rescue.

No details on injuries have been disclosed at this time.
