With just nine days left before Christmas, there is still a major need for toys and gifts for families and children in the care of Department of Social Services in San Luis Obispo County.

Officials say there are still close to 600 unfulfilled requests, many of them clothing.

Items include gel ice packs, AAA batteries, gift cards to grocery stores, including Walmart and PetCo, body wash, knitted scarves and gloves, slipper socks with grips, beanies, hand warmers, Forever stamp postage, nutritional and protein bars and more.

To donate or for more information on needed items, contact Margaret Castle at (805) 788-2575 during normal business hours.

People are asked to refrain from donating candy or other sugary items.
