Before indulging in all the delicious holiday fare, hundreds of people came out to Pismo Beach Thursday morning for the 8th annual South County Turkey Trot.

This year's event supports the SLO Food Bank, in memory of Christine Allen.

"I'm thankful for a county and community who believes that everybody should have something to eat," said Kevin Drabinki, CEO of the SLO County Food Bank.

Participants chose between running or walking one mile, 5k or 10k along the south side of Pismo Pier.

Pismo Beach mayor Ed Waage kicked off his Thanksgiving holiday at the Turkey Trot among the hundreds of locals and tourists.

"We're thankful for so many things specially at this Turkey Trot," Mayor Waage said. "The Food Bank does a great job providing food for all the folks who are less fortunate and this is a great way to say 'thank you' for all we have and that we can give to others."
