A man had to be hoisted off the beach near Guadalupe after suffering an ankle injury Thursday morning.
It happened shortly before 9 a.m. near Point Sal.
The Santa Barbara County Fire Department says because of the location and the deep sand, rescue crews were unable to reach the 70-year-old patient by vehicle and it was initially too foggy for a helicopter, so they called for a water rescue team from the Vandenberg Air Force Base Fire Department.
After a short time, however, the fog lifted and the helicopter was able to locate the patient and hoist him off the beach.
