The Paul Nelson Aquatic Center is back open for the first time since January.

The pool re-opened Tuesday for lap swim. Swimming lessons will start up next week.

The pool closed earlier this year for renovation work and was then unable to open this spring due to COVID-19 concerns.

Locals are happy to see the pool re-open for at least some use.

"It's great. It's my, as someone who swims every day now, I'm back in for the first time since March since the outbreak happened. I've been swimming in a lot of lakes. It's nice to be in a pool," said Santa Barbara resident Andy Stacey.

Reservations must be made online in advance for lap swimming, which costs $5 and is available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Recreational swimming is not allowed at this time.
