Jury selection is underway in the case of a Creston man charged with shooting and killing his neighbor's dog.

The trial in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court comes after Stephen Almond was charged in late 2018 with misdemeanor animal cruelty.

The Murray family said their Rhodesian Ridgeback named Snoop was a great protector who would look out for coyotes on their 45-acre piece of land.

The family says Almond shot Snoop from a sniper tower in his yard when the dog crossed into Almond's property.

Opening statements will begin once jurors are picked.
