Kona's Deli is still open and dedicated to serving the community

Kona's Deli has been serving the San Luis Obispo community sandwiches since 1989 -- and seven-year-owner Mattia Tedeschi is keeping true to tradition amid uncertainty.

Though about 60-to-70-percent of Kona's Deli's traffic has vanished due to Cal Poly's adjustments to stay-at-home orders and social distancing, Tedeschi says that he's still thankful to be open.

"Business is really slow, but we are lucky to be open," Tedeschi said. "And we can make sandwiches -- some good sandwiches -- for San Luis Obispo, for the community."

And in the meantime, Kona's Deli has focused on streamlining their online ordering, which now allows for customers to pay online and pick up their sandwich with no person-to-person contact -- something Tedeschi says he's encouraging customers to do to maintain social distancing. You can also order Kona's Deli for delivery.
