The Diocese of Monterey, which oversees Catholic schools and some churches in San Luis Obispo County, announced Tuesday the suspension of services.

The local schools impacted include Mission College Preparatory Catholic High School in San Luis Obispo, Old Mission School in San Luis Obispo, St. Patrick School in Arroyo Grande, and St. Rose Catholic School Paso Robles.

Mission San Luis Obispo del Tolosa and San Miguel Arcãngel are also affected by the suspension of services.

Reverend Daniel E. Garcia said in a press release, "I make these changes for the sake not only of the health and safety of our parishioners, but for the sake of the common good of all society...I invite you to embrace this sacrifice of our treasured Eucharistic celebrations as a Lenten penitential sacrifice of the Catholic people for the sake of all, in charity, to slow and eliminate this virus, as a threat to the life of all our people. "

The suspension goes into effect March 17 and lasts through April 12.

Reverend Daniel E. Garcia says there will be a Mass available in live-stream format on the Diocesan website.
