With rain hitting the Central Coast on Wednesday, many residents headed to hardware stores for supplies.

Farm Supply Company in Santa Maria has been seeing a lot of foot traffic during these past few days. With many people still having to work outdoors, they say they want to stay dry.

"Since we work for the school district, I am one of the drivers to deliver the stuff for the schools, we need the equipment to keep ourselves dry and make sure we do our job right,” Jose Mejia said.

Mejia is one of the many people who stopped by Farm Supply to purchase gear like rain boots and rain pants.

It's a popular trend employees have been seeing these past few days.

"Yeah, it's really kinda funny because, you know, we only sell the rain gear a handful of days out of the year and we get hit hard you know, yesterday, today but we tried our best to be prepared for it and take care of the people as best as we can,” said Farm Supply employee Greg Flores.

For customers like Cindy Horney, the rain has already caused some issues at her home but she said she hopes the materials she purchased will help avoid any flooding.

"We are just trying to make sure that we don't get any water in the house or anything like that,” Horney said.

Although the rain hasn’t come down as hard in Santa Maria compared to other cities, Flores does expect a good crowd to stop by throughout the week.

“Oh, definitely. We had them come in yesterday because again we were expecting the rain and today because it's here so yeah, you know, pretty much all week long,” Flores said.
