The Lompoc Public Library System virtual summer reading program is challenging residents to collectively read 5,000 books this summer.

The program started Monday and runs through August 31.

The "Book-cation" themed reading challenge is open to people of all ages. Participants can sign-up at online or by using the Beanstack app on a mobile device.

Participants are asked to submit book reviews in any form such as text, poem, photo, drawing, or emoticon. Each review enters a reader into a grand prize drawing for a Kindle Fire tablet.

On August 31, one grand-prize winner will be selected for each age group, including "Early Learners" up to 5, children ages 6 to 11, teens ages 12 to 17, and adults 18 and older.
