Lompoc Police officers and volunteers teamed up with several agencies and businesses to collect toys for local kids.

During the sixth annual Toys for Tots Fly'In, the Lompoc Police Department brought toys to the Lompoc Airport Saturday.

The event, hosted by the U.S. Marine Corp and Rene Minjares, owner of the Barnstormers Aero Services Inc, (BASI), encourages people to donate new, unwrapped toys to give to less fortunate children in the Lompoc Valley for Christmas.

“It’s to set an example to businesses and community members to enhance the spirit of giving," said Rene Minjares in a press release.

For the second year, the American Legion Riders in Lompoc also participated by riding through Lompoc, Buellton, Santa Ynez and Orcutt and collecting donations.

In addition, the Fly'In mission promotes aviation to kids who are interested in aircraft.
