Millions of Americans are honoring the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. Monday.

About 100 people showed up at the El Camino Community Center in Lompoc to celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Mayor Jenelle Osborne gave a proclamation to the MLK committee.

Lompoc Police Chief Joe Mariani also made remarks.

There was singing and dancing by local performers.

"He cared about equality for everyone… We should care for one another, just caring about your neighbor and loving your neighbor and that's what Dr. King was about and he spreads that throughout the nation and we're just trying to continue that here in Lompoc,” said Ronald Wiley, MLK committee co-founder.

This year's celebration was expanded with a longer program, compared to years past.
