COVID-19 testing for employees in the Lompoc Unified School District will begin later this month.
The district’s superintendent says this is a step toward being able to reopen schools as a state mandate requires all school employees be tested for COVID-19 once every two months.
Employees will be using at-home test kits. The district says it will be paying for the nasal swab tests to be analyzed by Quest Laboratories.
District officials say hundreds of staff members attended an informational webinar on the testing requirements.
The anticipated date for elementary schools in the district to return to in-person classes is Jan. 11 with an anticipated secondary date of Jan. 25.
A final decision is expected at a board meeting in early January.
