A Los Osos teen is recovering from injuries sustained in a suspected DUI crash Saturday night near Los Osos.
Cory Fiscus suffered a broken clavicle, cracked sternum and had surgery to repair his spleen shortly after the crash on Los Osos Valley Road west of Foothill Boulevard, according to his stepfather, Mike Minnala, who says the 19-year-old remains in the ICU at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center.
Fiscus was ejected from his Toyota 4Runner after being hit head-on by a driver suspected of being under the influence, officers say, adding that everyone involved in the crash was wearing a seatbelt.
Minnala says his step son, who is now awake and talking, has no memory of the crash, only remembering seeing headlights and then waking up in the hospital.
A Gofundme campaign has been created for Fiscus to help pay for medical bills, another car and other expenses, including new glasses, which he has reportedly been without since the crash.
Minnala says Fiscus, who works at a skate warehouse in San Luis Obispo and has lived in the Los Osos and Morro Bay area his entire life, will likely be out of work for at least a month.
CHP identified the driver who caused the crash as Daniel Pooler, 20, of Lompoc. Officers say he faces charges of DUI and DUI causing injury.
Pooler was also injured in the crash and had not been booked into jail as of Monday afternoon.
A third driver involved reportedly suffered minor injuries.
