A Santa Maria felon was arrested last week on suspicion of stealing mail from an Orcutt-area neighborhood.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the area of Aiden Way and Via Steffron around 2 p.m. Saturday to reports of someone stealing mail.

Officials say David Seviere, 44, was located near the neighborhood’s community mailboxes and mail from several homes nearby was found in the back of his vehicle.

“Additionally, keys modified to open mailboxes were located inside Seviere’s vehicle, as well as a stun gun. Seviere is a felon and prohibited from possessing a stun gun,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.

He was booked at the Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of felony mail theft, misdemeanor possession of burglary tools and being a felon in possession of a stun gun, a misdemeanor. He was released without bail after being booked, according to the sheriff’s office.

Investigators say a woman was reported to be with the suspect before deputies arrived. She has not been located but the sheriff’s office says it’s suspected she was also involved in the mail thefts.
