UPDATE (12:20 p.m): Santa Barbara police say the crash happened after a driver clipped some vehicles along Cliff Drive and then crashed into another, pushing it over 100 feet Thursday morning.

The driver was driving at a "high rate of speed," police say, adding the force of the impact sheered off the Range Rover's roof.

Police have not released information on those involved but a witness who heard the crash and then went outside around 1 a.m. said two women in possibly their early 20s were in the Range Rover.

The road remains closed in the area.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
