A Thousand Oaks man was killed in a crash Sunday on Highway 101 in southern Santa Barbara County.

The California Highway Patrol says it happened at about 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway south of the Padaro Lane overcrossing in the Carpinteria area.

Officers say the driver of a 2005 Infinity FX35 drifted onto the right shoulder while driving through a curve in the road and then back across both lanes before hitting the center median.

The man then overcorrected and lost control, causing the vehicle to spin, according to CHP.

The vehicle reportedly went off the road and rolled across the railroad tracks.

CHP says the driver, a 56-year-old man whose name has not been released, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. He was taken to the hospital where he later died, officers say.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

No other vehicles were involved.

Anyone with information that may help investigators is asked to call CHP at (805) 967-1234 Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
