An Aptos man is expected to be sentenced to prison for his role in a deadly crash in Nipomo last month.

Aleksandr Moiseyev pleaded no contest in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Wednesday during his continued arraignment.

The 28-year-old was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and two counts of driving under the influence of drugs causing injury, with an enhancement of personally causing great bodily injury for the July 8 crash on Pomeroy Road near Sandydale Drive.

However, Wednesday’s plea was only for the charge of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The California Highway Patrol said Moiseyev drifted into the opposite lane and crashed his small SUV into a pickup truck, killing the driver, identified as Jose Soto Gonzales, 57, from Nipomo.

Moiseyev is expected to be sentenced in October to the agreed-upon sentence of four years, according to the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office.

He has remained in custody at San Luis Obispo County Jail since his arrest July 12, jail logs show.
