Two people were arrested in connection to an attempted carjacking in Goleta, after officials say the suspects cornered a victim and assaulted him.

In a press release, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a call reporting a man with a gun at a hotel near the 6800 block of Hollister Ave around 9:45 a.m. Sunday.

When deputies arrived, they located two suspects a block away attempting to flee on foot, officials said. Deputies searched the area and found a hidden replica Glock pellet gun and luggage taken from the hotel room.

According to authorities, the victim said the male and female suspect had followed him to his hotel room, closed the door behind themselves and demanded the keys to his vehicle.

The victim was able to escape from the hotel room and run to the parking lot area where witnesses called 911, sheriff's officials said.

Officials said the victim suffered moderate injuries.

When deputies later searched the hotel room, they found items left behind by the suspects that indicated a crime was planned, according to authorities.

Authorities identified the female suspect as 43-year-old Kelly Espinoza of Pico Rivera and the male suspect as 20-year-old John Chavez Hernandez of Covina.

Both were booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail each with a $50,000 bail.

They are facing felony charges of burglary, conspiracy, robbery. In addition, Hernandez is also facing a felony charge of assault with a firearm.
