Atascadero Police have arrested a man suspected of shooting at a woman's car earlier this month.
According to police, at about 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, a man approached a woman who was sitting in her car in the area of Buena Fortuna and Avenida Maria.
The man reportedly shined a flashlight into her vehicle, identified himself as a law enforcement officer, and displayed a handgun.
Police say the woman was afraid for her safety and questioned the man's identity as an officer, so she drove away. Investigators say the man then fired a shot, which went through the taillight of the victim's car, through her seat, and struck her in the shoulder. The bullet reportedly did not penetrate her skin.
Police say detectives identified Steven Ladwig, 65, as a suspect in this case.
On Wednesday, April 22, they served a search warrant at a home in the 10000 block of Los Pueblos and arrested Ladwig. Police say they recovered items of evidence associated with the shooting during their search.
Ladwig was booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder and shooting at an occupied vehicle.
