Police say a man wanted in connection with a shooting and carjacking in Santa Maria on Saturday has been arrested in Southern California.

Police say at about 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, an officer responding to a domestic disturbance in the 200 block of East Grant St. spotted a man in the area who was wanted on unrelated charges.

When the officer tried to detain the man, police say there was a physical altercation and the man pulled out a handgun and shot at the officer.

The officer was not hurt.

Police say the man ran off and later stole a vehicle at gunpoint.

The suspect, identified as Dustin Morales, 27, was reportedly taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol on Monday.
