The Montecito Fire Department is preparing for the upcoming winter storm which is expected to bring torrential downpour.

Department officials say they want to prepare for the unlikely event of major debris flow.

"We work very closely with our partners at the National Weather Service," says Montecito Fire Department Chief Kevin Taylor. "As the storm gets closer and they can start to actually track it on their local radar they'll be able to tell us what the rain fall rates are."

The fire department says crews have inspected the debris basins in the community along with the creeks and channels and the department says they are all open and clear.

Earlier this week, Montecito firefighters underwent rescue training ahead of the incoming rain.

Sand is available at Lower Manning Park for residents who may need to fill sandbags. Central Coast residents can find a complete list of locations to fill sandbags here.

Santa Barbara county also has an emergency plan available online for residents in need.
