The Atascadero Creek is looking cleaner thanks to some community members.

More than 100 community members with Earth Shine, a local non-profit organization, gathered to pick up trash in Atascadero Saturday morning.

Organizers said this was one of the largest turnouts they have ever seen.

Earth Shine distributed gloves, safety vests, trash bags and grabbers to community members who showed up.

A 16-year-old volunteer who came out with his mom and two brothers said it is not too late to join the clean up effort.

"There is tons of trash and we could use all the help we can get and this is just one part. There's so many parts around here that need help cleaning up," volunteer Tyler Crapo said.

Earth Shine hosts monthly cleanup events at the Atascadero Creek and the river walk in Paso Robles.

Together, they said they collected 50 cubic yards of trash from the creek and downtown corridor.
