The city of Morro Bay is launching its a "Be a Trash Hero" campaign, encouraging visitors to be part of the solution not the pollution.

City officials say they are seeing a spike in the amount of waste from tourists.

In response, the city has added trash bins and increased staffing on weekends but the amount of trash continues to surpass the added capacity.

The campaign focuses on encouraging visitors to respect the community by properly disposing of all trash and recyclables.

This campaign follows the city's previous campaign called: "Be a Face Mask Hero," encouraging visitors to wear face coverings in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
