A woman was hospitalized with a serious head injury after being violently attacked in Santa Barbara Wednesday, according to police.
Police were called to an area near the railroad tracks after a bystander reportedly found the woman at about 9:16 a.m.
Police on Thursday released additional details about the case, saying the woman is homeless and did not know her attacker.
They add that the motive is unclear at this time.
Santa Barbara police Crimes Against Persons detectives are investigating the attack and have made the case a priority, police say.
