Motorcycle crash on Highway 101 northbound snarls traffic

UPDATE: The California Highway Patrol says the motorcycle rider suffered minor injuries and was not admitted to the hospital.

Officials say the rider reported he was splitting traffic at an "excessive" speed, around 75 mph, when traffic was moving approximately 25 mph. He then reportedly crashed.

ORIGINAL STORY: A crash involving a motorcyclist and a vehicle is slowing traffic along Highway 101 northbound Monday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol's Incident Page, it occurred near the South Higuera off-ramp around 7:35 a.m.

The vehicle involved initially left the scene, CHP stated, after checking on the rider, but returned due to damage to the vehicle.

It is unknown how the crash happened or if the motorcyclist is injured.

Traffic is moving slowly. Expect delays.

Another crash happened shortly before 8 a.m. near the Avila Beach off-ramp in the northbound lanes of Highway 101.
