A man from Paso Robles could face hit-and-run charges after a motorcyclist suffered major injuries in a collision near Santa Margarita on Wednesday.

It happened just after 9 a.m. on Highway 58 near the Santa Margarita Cemetery.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of a Dodge Dually flatbed truck tried to pass two big rig dump trucks at a curve in the road and couldn't get back in his lane in time to avoid hitting a motorcyclist that was traveling in the opposite direction.

The impact reportedly caused the motorcyclist to lose control and she was ejected from her bike.

CHP says the 34-year-old woman from Santa Margarita was taken to the hospital with major injuries.

Officers say the driver of the Dodge did not stop or return to the scene of the crash.

CHP says investigators were able to identify the driver later in the day and they questioned him at his Paso Robles home.

He was not arrested at the time but CHP says he could still be charged by the district attorney's office.
