Old Town Lompoc could soon see some new businesses as two breweries plan to open up in the coming months.

Cold Coast Brewing Company has applied for a conditional use permit at 118 West Ocean Ave., located between H and I streets.

Co-Founder Eric Oviatt says he and three others have been planning for the past three or four years to open a brewery in Lompoc and says once they found this location, it was the perfect fit for what they wanted to do.

Oviatt says they will focus more on California-type beers, like West Coast and tropical IPAs and American Brown ales.

Recently retired from the Navy, Oviatt, who was born and raised in Lompoc, hopes the tasting room becomes known as the city’s hometown brewery.
"We've gotten really good responses from our beers and once the word got out that we were doing this, we've had people hounding us, ‘When are you gonna open? We want more beers,’" said Michael Lamping, another Cold Coast co-founder.

While Cold Coast will not serve food, Oviatt says people can bring food items in and they hope to work with local food trucks in the area.

They are aiming to be open by St. Patrick’s Day and have no plans at this time to distribute.

Once open, it could be one of three brewery spots within just blocks of each other, but Oviatt said their focus is not on competition but rather collaboration.

Another new brewery coming to the area is Stone Pine Brewery.

It’s planned to be part of the new location for Central Coast Specialty Foods.

Currently located at 115 E. College Ave., the business has planned to open on the south side of time for some time now.

Owners tell KSBY News work at the new location, which once housed Lompoc’s first bowling alley on the 100 block of H Street near Cypress Avenue, is expected to begin soon and they’re hoping to be open by July 4.

Along with an expanded menu and more seating, they hope to also offer the on-site brewery and large cocktail bar “featuring specialty cocktails & Stone Pine Beer.”

Both businesses would be located not far from Solvang Brewing Company, which opened a while back at 234 N. H Street.
