California State Parks is launching a new guided northern elephant seal tour at Hearst San Simeon State Park Friday.

Park officials say this is a fun, educational tour of the area's most charismatic mammals.

On the tour, people will learn about the elephant seal cycle while overlooking "battling bulls, birthing cows and cackling pups."

Officials want to remind people to bring their binoculars.

Tours start Friday and run through the end of March. California State Park staff will be onsite to greet tour goers at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Tours will meet 2.25 miles north of the Hearst Castle Entrance on the ocean side of Highway 1.

The tour to see the elephant seals includes a 45 minute, 1/2 mile guided trail walk and is considered easy with varied terrain.

Tickets are $13 per person and onsite parking is free.
