On Tuesday night, the City of Pismo Beach passed an emergency ordinance that requires essential employees to wear facial covers when they cannot socially distance from the public.
The ordinance will go into effect Wednesday, May 20, and will impact all businesses that are currently open, according to Pismo Beach City Council members.
The emergency ordinance requires some sort of facial cover be worn by essential workers when "the employee is unable to maintain a six-foot separation from members of the public."
The ordinance does not require face coverings for members of the public who patronize those businesses.
The new order also requires businesses to display signage that encourages customers to wear masks.
