Students and their parents got a first look at the new classroom facilities at Oceano Elementary School on the first day of school Thursday.

Several new classrooms were installed on campus at the end of last school year. Students were a part of the moving process throughout the final week of the year.

The new facilities include brand new kindergarten classrooms with Jack-and-Jill bathrooms, eight classrooms for third to sixth grade classes and a kindergarten playground area.

The principal of Oceano Elementary School is excited for teachers and their classes to get to use these buildings as they transition from portables to permanent facilities.

“You could feel the buzz and the vibe this morning with our families and their kids as they were coming to school. You could just tell the excitement was there. They are very proud of their school,” said Principal Michelle Johnson.

The funding for these classrooms was provided by Measure I, which was passed by Lucia Mar Unified School District and the local community.
