UPDATE (June 19, 10:53 a.m.) - The California Highway Patrol says the motorcyclist involved in the crash was traveling southbound and was unable to maintain his lane while in a sweeping right turn curve. He reportedly crossed over the double yellow lines into the path of the oncoming car. The driver was unable to avoid the motorcycle and the two vehicles collided head-on.
The motorcyclist has been identified only as a 43-year-old man from Santa Maria. His name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

(June 18, 7:43 p.m.) - A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on crash on Foxen Canyon Road east of Santa Maria on Thursday.
It happened just before 6:15 p.m. near the intersection with Depot Street in the Sisquoc area.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the motorcyclist crashed head-on into a car with three people inside.
The motorcyclist died at the scene. The three people in the car were treated for minor injuries.
Fire officials say the motorcycle caught fire, which was extinguished by firefighters.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
