Paso Robles city council members voted 5-0 this evening to allocate $278,000 toward reducing fire danger and cleaning up the Salinas River.
The river has been serving as a homeless encampment for years, but a recent fire destroyed two homes and reignited the debate about the fire risk of homeless living in the river bed.
Council-members also approved an updated policy regarding the removal of garbage, cleanup of temporary shelters and weed abatement procedures. They also asked staff to look at possible relocation sites for those being displaced.
