A Paso Robles man was found dead in an apparent rockslide near Bakersfield over the weekend, according to police.
Doren James Strane, 56, was reportedly mining on a hillside near the California Living Museum Zoo, police said.
Bakersfield Police were notified of the incident Sunday evening when a person noticed mining gear in the area and reported it to BPD. The man told police that he met a person in that area last week and believes that the rockslide may have buried him, Bakersfield news staion KERO reported.
Police are unsure when the rockslide occurred.
Strane's body was unable to be extricated until Monday due to issues accessing the area.
KERO reported BPD is considering this a "suspicious death" since the extent of the Strane's injuries is not known.
