Paso Robles school board to discuss budget shortfall

The Paso Robles Joint Unified School District Board of Trustees is planning to discuss budget cuts at its next meeting.

Staff will give a recap of the previously approved master plan project list and the associated budget.

The Paso Robles school board had an extra $7 million in the bank a few years ago, but this school year the reserve account fell to $800,000.

The dwindling savings, combined with an overall budget shortfall, is leaving people in the community concerned.

Overspending, employee raises and creating programs the district could not afford are some of the issues which led to big budget problems.

At the next meeting, staff will make suggestions for future projects and budget allocations.

This week's meeting will be held on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 8:30 a.m. at the District Administration Office.
