Kids from preschool to eighth grade laced up their running shoes for the 42nd annual Turkey Trot in Arroyo Grande.

On Sunday, the fastest kids won frozen turkeys, frozen chickens or frozen game hens depending on whether they placed first, second or third.

Participants could also win raffle prizes and t-shirts.

Preschoolers ran one lap and eighth graders ran eight laps around the track at Paulding Middle School.

"For the community of Arroyo Grande, this is really important because it brings everybody together. It's a way to celebrate doing an activity that is healthy, that is fun, so it's just a really great event," said Sheridan Bohlken, who works for the Arroyo Grande Recreation Services Department.

The event is co-sponsored by the Lion's Club of Arroyo Grande.
