UPDATE (11:20 p.m.) - Highway 101 near the Milpas Street off-ramp is open again after a hard closure, according to California Highway Patrol.
Officers said a man was hit by multiple vehicles while he was walking across the highway.
CHP has yet to identify him.

ORIGINAL STORY: California Highway Patrol is responding to a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash in Santa Barbara.
The crash happened at around 6 p.m. in the southbound lanes of Highway 101 just south of Milpas Street in Santa Barbara.
CHP has a hard closure of the highway in place near the Milpas Street off-ramp as first responders are on scene investigating the crash.
