UPDATE: Hwy 101 fully reopened after semi-truck hits, kills pedestrian in Goleta

UPDATE (1:25 p.m.) - Caltrans reports that all southbound lanes of Highway 101 at Turnpike Rd. in Goleta have reopened.

UPDATE (12:05 p.m.) - The California Highway Patrol says the southbound #1 and #2 lanes of Highway 101 at Turnpike Rd. in Goleta will remain closed until approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday following an early-morning fatal collision.

Just after 3 a.m., investigators say a big rig hauling a trailer struck a pedestrian who was crossing the highway from the right shoulder toward the center divider.

The pedestrian died at the scene.

The truck driver was not injured and remained at the scene after calling 911.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or who has further information is asked to call the California Highway Patrol at (805) 967-1234.

ORIGINAL STORY - A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a southbound traveling semi-truck in Goleta early Thursday morning.

First reported around 3 a.m., Hwy 101 was shut down after the fatal crash near the Turnpike Road offramp.

All southbound lanes were closed initially, but one lane is now open as of posting.

As of about 6:45 a.m., Santa Barbara CHP says two southbound lanes remain closed.

Traffic is backed up through the area.
